What is your name and title?
Spencer Munson, assistant director of campus engagement
How long have you worked at Doane? What attracted you to work here?
Two and a half years. I love the small campus environment and the ability to foster meaningful connections with our students. I am also fortunate to be able to continue my education with a Master of Business Administration. I'm grateful that Doane takes Student Affairs seriously and that we have the resources to help in our mission to build leaders.
What do you consider the best part of your Doane experience?
Advising the Student Programming Board (SPB). For the sports fans, it's like I am the coach of team fun. I love mentoring students who are interested and in tune with the campus climate and students' needs. It helps me understand and keep up with trends and foster a more inclusive campus.
What is something you're proud of accomplishing or achieving while at Doane?
At NACA — a.k.a. the National Association of Campus Activities — our students won best delegation out of 90 schools! NACA had such a huge impact on me as a student leader and it was exciting to show our SBP exec team the value and rewards of being super involved at a conference like that.
What is some advice you would give to current students? Or, what is some advice you've received that you value?
Make sure school comes first but don't be shy! Get involved and find your passions and your people outside the classroom. If Doane doesn't offer a club that is the right fit for you, we are here to help you start something new!
What is something you like about yourself that others may not know?
Music will always be my first love. In my prior occupation I managed and organized three different festivals including Jazz in June and Lincoln Calling. I have also toured all over the Midwest as a DJ and I have over 5000 vinyl records. I love to turn people on to new music.
