Kylie Krivohlavek, 2023

What is your major or degree program?
Human Relations with an emphasis in criminal justice.

What do you hope to do after completing your degree?
I recently started at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) at a Child and Family Service Trainee. I will go through their 14 week training course. After completion I will move up to a specialist and be assigned my own cases.

How is Doane preparing you to reach your goals?
Attending Doane has prepared me to take what I have learned and apply it to the kids, families and communities that I will work with in the future. Doane has also given me some great opportunities, that I feel I would not have received anywhere else.

Who has been a major influence for you during your education at Doane? How have they helped you?
My advisor, Jean [Kilnoski], she has been nothing but short than amazing. She became my advisor halfway through my time at Doane and I could not be more thankful. Between being my advisor, having her in multiple courses and helping me reach my goal, Jean has been very helpful. She understands her students and makes sure her students understand what is being presented, she will give multiple paths to take to reach a goal and the steps to get there. Jean is just a very compassionate person.

What is something you're proud of accomplishing or achieving while at Doane?
Finishing, getting the degree. After years of being in school and many nights of study and dedication, and even doubling up on my course load to finish sooner, it has finally all fallen into place.

What advice would you give to an incoming student?
Nothing is impossible. The word itself says "I'm possible", if you set your mind to you, you can accomplish anything and the staff at Doane will be there to help you in any way they possibly can.

What's something you like about yourself that other people may not know?
I'm a big nature person, I love to spend time in my garden and then can everything in the fall for cooking, I love my plants - both indoor and outdoor - and I love my chickens and dog.

What is something you've really enjoyed about your time at Doane?

Meeting new people, all my classes seemed small but that didn't stop the relationships from building.
