Cristian Yanez, an engineering student, was an intern at the Lincoln Airport

What is your name and graduation year?
Cristian Yanez, 2025

What is your hometown and high school?
Mexico City, Admiral Farragut Academy

What is your major or degree program?
Mechanical & Civil Engineering

Why did you come to Doane?
I chose Doane because I wanted to play baseball for a competitive team. I pursued engineering because I was taking an aviation class while I was in high school and [it] really [got] my attention so I thought engineering was the way to go. 

What were some of the projects or tasks you completed during your internship at the Lincoln Airport?
I was visiting a construction site and doing a weekly report for a new hangar that Duncan [Aviation] is building. I also did a pavement rating for all of the roads that Lincoln airport owns. I was also using AutoCAD to do some standard drawings for hangars and also some runway quantity checks. 

What will you be doing after graduation?
Work on the aviation team with Olsson

How is Doane preparing you to reach your goals?
Becoming a better self

Who has been a major influence for you during your education at Doane? How have they helped you?
Guadalupe Leon [has helped me] to become a better engineer

What is something you're proud of accomplishing or achieving while at Doane?
[Being a] student athlete and graduating with a high GPA

What advice would you give to an incoming student?
Hard work beats talent

What's something you like about yourself that other people may not know?
I like country music, especially Luke Combs

What is something you've really enjoyed about your time at Doane?
Playing baseball
