What is your name and title?

Brian Stutz, Director of Residential Life and Education and Senior Conduct Officer

Brian StutzHow long have you worked at Doane?

1.5 years. I have worked at large universities my entire career and wanted a chance to work at a university where you can really help students feel supported. I did not know anything about Doane. I remember before my interview having to look up on YouTube to make sure I said Doane currently. In watching that video, I could tell how the faculty and staff care for student success and I knew this would be a place I could thrive in.

What do you consider the best part of your Doane experience?

Working with students to help build them to be leaders. Is something that I really have enjoyed so far. That does sound cliché, and I am sure President Hughes would be happy to see that answer, but I truly mean it. It is a great experience to see students grow and learn in their years here at Doane.

What is something you're proud of accomplishing or achieving while at Doane?

In my short time here, I am very excited and proud to help open the brand-new residence hall. Lots of the planning was done prior to my arrival but I have been able to help with furniture selection and recruiting students to live in the new space this coming January 2024. We have planned so many different events and excited for everyone to see the amazing spaces.

What's some advice you would give to current students? Or, what is some advice you've received that you value

My biggest piece of advice would be to ask for help. There are so many people who are working behind the scenes who want to be able to help you be successful.

What is something you like about yourself that others may not know?

I am a big volleyball fan and coach in Lincoln for Nebraska One. I also at times work with my partner Lanie at Pearson’s Pumpkin place in Eagle, NE.
