Doane University hosted its annual fall employer connections event on Wednesday, October 1, 2024, on the Crete campus. This networking event allows employers, students and alumni to connect about internships, jobs, volunteer opportunities and much more.

The Career, Leadership, and Service (CLS) office organizes the event every year. Sarah Begay, the associate director of career development, led the effort to coordinate the event.

“The setting is informal, similar to a real networking event atmosphere,” Begay said. “Last year, we had 175 students participate, and we anticipate an even larger turnout this year.”

Prior to employer connections, the CLS office encouraged students to refine their resumes, prepare introductions and review common interview questions.

With more than 30 companies in attendance, such as State Farm, the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services and Reliant Transportation, students engaged in face-to-face networking, practiced their elevator pitches and got their names out there.

Events like this also allow Doane alumni to return to campus in a new role. Maci McCarter Wallace ’25 attended the event representing Reliant Transportation.

“Coming back for this event as an alumnus was an incredible experience,” Wallace said. “I loved getting to see past campus employers, professors and classmates, all while searching for new hires in the sea of Doane talent. It was an incredible turnout for us, and a positive impact for our 2026 recruiting.”
