Doane University's Graphic Design program prepares students to become successful, socially engaged designers who create effective visual communication informed by global and cultural awareness. We promote conceptual problem solving through research and experimentation, establishing a sustainable and ethical practice, engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration, and utilizing emerging technologies, to continually search for new methods for enhancing the human experience.
In the classroom, students are exposed to a breadth of graphic design specializations and have access to state-of-the-art technology.
Studio course projects include a variety of print and digital applications such as:
- Packaging Design
- Infographics
- Visual Identity Systems
- Publication Design
- And Design for Social Change
In addition to graphic design studio courses, the major employs a strong foundation in the arts, an examination of communication, design theory, and history, as well as specialized classes in areas such as web design and motion graphics.
Throughout their time in the program, students receive personalized attention, allowing them to pursue their individual career interests within the field of graphic design. No matter the area of interest, all graphic design students focus on developing strong concepts and establishing a creative process for becoming a visual problem solver.

Program Specialties
Our Graphics Lab is equipped with M1 Imacs, Large format and photo printers, Epson Scanner, Wacom Intuos tablets, and a Wacom Cintiq. In addition to our Graphics Lab students have access to our Fab Lab which is equipped with a Glowforge, Graphtec plotter/cutter, and Dremel 3D Printer.
Graphic Design is a fairly broad umbrella for many disciplines. Our program currently offers opportunities to learn about Branding, Motion Design, UI/UX, Print Design, Package Design, Merchandise Design, and Social Media Content Creation.
