Math Placement Test

Unless you are transferring credits for a college level Precalculus or Calculus course, you will probably need to take a math class at Doane. To determine which course best serves your skill level, please do one of the following:

  1. Provide your SAT or ACT scores (specifically, your Math subscore) -OR-
  2. Take the online math placement test

Spanish Placement Test:

If you are interested in taking Spanish you can take the online placement test. This will help us establish language class placement. The placement test may also help you work towards obtaining a certificate in Spanish for Educators, Spanish for Business or Spanish for Healthcare. Even more exciting, the placement test may also shorten the time needed to earn a minor since advanced-level students can obtain a Spanish minor with as little as four courses. Also, if you completed the Seal of Bilteracy or took the Spanish AP exam, there are opportunities for credit. Once you’ve completed the 15 minute test, Doane will review and contact you. Please contact [email protected] with questions.

If you do not think you have adequate access to internet resources, let us know and we will schedule a time when you are on campus to take the above tests.

Review information for the Reading Test for English class placement:

All students must demonstrate college level reading and writing skills before class registration Reading/Writing skills are evaluated during the enrollment/advising process. This requirement may be met in any of following ways:

  1. ACT of 19 in English/Reading and Writing sections
  2. SAT score of 450 or higher in the Reading subsection
  3. ACCUPLACER Score of 250 or higher on the Reading Test
  4. Submit official transcripts showing completed college coursework in English with a grade of a C or higher, or AP test scores.
  5. Take the Nelson Denny Reading Test during enrollment days and score above 42% for all sections (Note: this is not an average of 42%, but each section must be above 42%)

If you do not meet the above requirements, you will be placed in University Foundation courses (which count toward general graduation requirements).

Determine if you need to meet with Director of Disability Services:

If you are interested in meeting with the Director of Disability Services to discuss accommodations (i.e. if you had a 504 or IEP in high school, or have a medical or mental health diagnosis), please complete our online form. Once you have completed the form, Doane will contact you with your assigned time to meet and schedule for Enrollment Day.

We want your day to be the most enjoyable and productive. Having this information and being prepared to discuss your academic preparation allows us to provide you with the best possible class schedule for the fall.
