Sandro Aldana ’19
Spring Valley, Illinois
Sandro was attending junior college while searching for a school where he could pursue his passion for engineering and soccer. At a friend's suggestion, he scheduled a visit at Doane. "I enjoyed the people and environment. It just seemed like a great fit for me." For Sandro, it was a no-brainer for him to transfer to Doane.
As a Doane student, in addition to pursuing his engineering degree, Sandro is also a member of the men's soccer team, president of the newly-formed Engineers Without Borders club, and helps his professors with research and design work over the summer.
Despite the work required as an engineering student, Sandro is having a great time at Doane. "For my sophomore design project, we are building a biodigester for a client that is paying for our materials. We are also creating blueprints from the program SolidWorks. Having a real person to work with is amazing. This experience makes us more professional, and encourages us to be more conscious of our client and their needs."
He also appreciates how much hands-on experience he's getting. "Having to complete projects year-to-year gives us a better understanding of how difficult and time-consuming projects are." This experience will be valuable for Sandro after graduation, when he hopes to get a job in mechanical engineering or pursue a master's degree in mechanical or civil engineering.
