Olsen Taylor Family

We want other students to enjoy the same amazing experiences we had at Doane and foster relationships with their peers who will become even better friends as alumni. - Rev. Walter Olsen

For many students and alumni Doane is synonymous with family. For the Olsen and Taylor families, never has a statement been truer.

Marion Olsen Taylor ’49 and her brother, the late Rev. Walter Olsen ’52, are the bridge that connects these two amazing families. Marion & Walt both met their spouses at Doane: Marion and Frank Taylor ’49 were married in 1949 and Walter and Ruth Ross ’53 were married in 1952. As they embarked on their journeys after graduation, Doane was never far from their hearts or minds.

Each couple has children and grandchildren who earned degrees from Doane and extended family, as well. Parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, even grandparents. The total number for Doane graduates is well above 50.

Their devotion and dedication is unquestionable. The Olsen & Taylor families have given so much of themselves, their time, talents and treasures: helping recruit students; organizing alumni groups, volunteers, reunions, and dinners; serving on committees, the board of trustees, and campaign leadership committees; and providing financial gifts for endowed funds, scholarships, buildings, etc. The ways in which these families have given back to Doane is innumerable.

Their motivation is simple: “It’s all about the students and giving back the college that has given them so much.”
