Philosophy is the attempt to find answers to life's most prominent and challenging questions.

What is the purpose of human life?
Does God exist?
How can I be sure about anything?
What is real, and what is a hallucination?

In modern philosophy, we explore the basic concepts of self-identity, knowledge, and morality. At Doane University, we offer students the opportunity to explore the deep-rooted values and ideals that have shaped the world, its people, and their cultures.

As more job functions are computerized, automated, or outsourced, students must prepare for a workplace where the ability to think abstractly and learn quickly is more important for a specific skill, if they want to be indispensable.

Many other disciples were born out of philosophy, such as astronomy, biology, and psychology. Philosophy stands out from these because its purpose is to teach you "how" to think, not "what" to think.

Students will read and observe objectively, break arguments down with reasoning, criticize, and then create new opinions of their own. Through the studying of Socrates, Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes, Sartre, and others, students master transferable skills that will cause them to stand out in today's globally competitive market.
