USF Continues Cinderella Run

Doane fell to the University of Sioux Falls on Thursday afternoon and are on the brink of being eliminated for the GPAC Tournament. Sioux Falls rallied to take a 5-4 win over the Tigers.

Sioux Falls tagged Tiger starter Nick Dawson for two runs in the first inning. Doane came back with a run in the second. Jason West led off with a triple and scored on a groundout by Mike Korsakas.

In the third, Doane plated three runs to take the lead. Mike Albert singled to bring in Anthony Hincy with AJ Spanel scoring on an error by the right fielder. Anthony Dunn followed with a double down the line to score Albert for a 4-1 lead.

Sioux Falls added runs in the fourth and sixth to tie the game. In the seventh, the Cougars were able to load the bases following an error to open the inning. Mitch VandenBerge was able to get a strikeout for the first out of the inning but then hit the next batter to bring in the winning run.

Doane posted seven hits in the game, two from Hincy and West. Sioux Falls totaled eight hits.

The Tigers will face Morningside in an elimination game on Friday afternoon.
