UNK Pulls Away in Second Half

The Tiger men's basketball team dropped their first contest of 2010, falling to the University of Nebraska-Kearney, 74-47, in Kearney on Saturday evening. The Tigers were within eight points at the break but UNK outscored Doane, 40-21, in the second half.

The Lopers were on fire from the floor all evening long, shooting 53.3-percent for the game. They also hit nine three-point baskets while shooting 42.9-percent from behind the arc. Nebraska-Kearney was paced by Max Froehlich's 19 points and four assists. Brian Ridgeway led the team with five of the 19 team assists. Josiah Parker scored eight points to go with his game-high eight rebounds.

Doane was led by Jens Scholl's 16 points and six rebounds. He hit six field goal attempts and four free throws in the game. Zach Moult added 12 points on six field goals. Trent Schlautman, Jake Johnson and Tyler Cyboron finished with two assists apiece as the team totaled eight assists.

The Lopers out-rebounded the Tigers 41-30 but the offensive rebounds were even at 11 apiece. UNK shot 53.3-percent from the floor compared to Doane's 33.9-percent. The Lopers committed 13 turnovers while Doane finished with 12.

Doane will host Hastings College on January 6 at 6:00 PM. The game will be broadcasted by the College Fanz Sports Network.
