Tigers Upset #11 Taylor in Five

The Doane volleyball team won their third match of the Red Raider Classic with an upset victory over #11 Taylor University in five sets. Game scorers were 25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 18-25 and 15-9 in favor of the 12th-ranked Tigers. Doane is now 6-1 on the season with one match still scheduled in Orange City, Iowa.

Key to the match was if a team had the higher attack percentage in a set. Doane posted the best attack percentage in the first, third and fifth sets which were the three that they won. For the match, Doane held a .193 to .190 advantage in attack percentage.

The Tigers received a season-high 22 kills from Emily Max. Max had an all-around solid performance as she led the team with a .400 attack percentage, two ace serves and five total blocks. Susan Rollman and Ashley Axmann added 10 kills apiece as Doane finished with 53 for the match.

Desiree Erikson posted 25 sets assists while Lacey Woitaszewski added 20 for the Tigers.

In the back row on defense, Terra Andreasen led the way with 21 digs while Lindsay Coffin added 16 for the Tigers. Doane finished with 8.5 team blocks with Rollman and Axmann adding three total blocks apiece in addition to the five from Max.

Leading Taylor University was Kelsey Pritchard as she finished with 21 kills. Ashlyn DeHoogh added 12 kills and a .435 attack percentage.

Betsy Brown had a match-high 40 set assists and 18 digs for the Trojans.

The Tigers will face Valley City State University to close out the Red Raider Classic on Saturday afternoon.
