Tigers Sweep Nebraska Wesleyan

Doane picked up a sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan to open GPAC action on Friday.  Originally scheduled for Thursday, the Tigers defeated the Prairie Wolves 5-3 and 13-12.

In game one, Whitney Poole went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Tiger offense.  Amber Remmers scored two runs for Doane as the Tigers were held to six hits. 

On the mound, Joy Vasa threw a complete game nine-hitter.  She was charged with two earned runs while striking out three.

Game two was a crazy game.  Doane jumped out to a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning.  NWU plated four runs to take the lead.  The Tigers came right back with three runs in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead.  NWU added three in the fifth inning to take a two run lead once again.  Doane took the lead back in the sixth with three runs before NWU went back on top 9-8 threw six innings.  Doane won the seventh inning, five runs to NWU's three, to take the one run victory.

Whitney Poole and Kristin Schmidt each went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored.  Schmidt had a home run and finished with five RBIs for the Tigers.  Joy Vasa added two RBIs for Doane.

Jennifer Liddell picked up the victory despite allowing six runs in 1.2 innings of work.  Vasa took the mound three batters into the seventh inning and finished off the Prairie Wolves for the save.

Doane will travel to Yankton, S.D., to take on Mount Marty College on March 30.  This game was originally scheduled for March 29 but has been moved due to weather conditions.
