Tigers Snap Skid; Defeat Dana in Overtime

Doane College (7-10, 3-5 GPAC) snapped a four-game losing streak with an overtime victory over Dana College (8-12, 1-7 GPAC).  Doane was able to build an eight point lead going into halftime behind hot shooting from three-point range.  The Tigers hit 6-of-9 from behind the arc in the first half after shooting 8-percent and 14-percent the previous two games.

The Tigers cooled off in the second half while Dana stayed hot from the floor.  After shooting 58-percent in the first half, the Vikings shot 45-percent in the second half while also hitting 9-of-11 free throws.  Dana took their only lead of the second half with 1:05 remaining when Sean Johnson hit a jumper to go ahead 77-75.  The Tigers attacked on the offensive end and drew a foul, sending Kolby Hamilton to the free throw line.  He missed the front end of a 1-and-1 but Tyler Cyboron grabbed the offensive rebound.  After a timeout, Dane Cruz knocked down a jumper to tie the game with 33 seconds remaining.  Dana missed a three point attempt and put-back attempt, seeing the game go to overtime.

In the extra period, Ben Streck opened up the scoring for Doane with a three-point basket.  The two teams exchanged a pair of baskets and with Doane ahead by five, Doug Huston hit his only three-point basket of the game to pull within two with two minutes remaining.  Doane responded a minute later after each team missed a scoring opportunity and Cyboron connected on a three-point basket for Doane to go ahead 89-84.  The final minute saw plenty of scoring as Dana hit two baskets and a pair of free throws while Doane went 4-of-6 from the free throw line.  Dana had two opportunities to tie the game but was unable to connect from beyond the arc.

For the game, Cruz led all scorers with 28 points.  He was 10-of-17 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe while adding seven assists.  Scott Neuhalfen added 18 points for Doane while Cyboron and Brett McFarland each posted 15 points.  For the game, Doane was 9-of-20 from behind the three-point arc.

Dana was paced by Eric Maassen's 20 points while Jon Person added 18 for the Vikings.  Gabe Bross posted 13 points with Huston collecting 10 points and nine assists.  Dana shot 50 percent from the floor and 76.9 percent (20-26) from the free throw line.

Doane out-rebounded Dana 43-36, collecting 20 offensive rebounds.  The Vikings committed 15 turnovers, compared to 14 by Doane.  The Tigers collected eight points in the fast-break, compared to a pair from Dana.
