Tigers Set For National Meet

The Doane College Cross Country squads will be sending athletes this week to Vancouver, Wash., for the 2009 NAIA National Championship Meets hosted by the Cascade Collegiate Conference and Concordia University (Ore.) on November 21. The Doane men's team qualified with an automatic berth through the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and two women individually qualified for the Tigers.

On the men's side, Doane is led by 2008 NAIA All-American Sufian Kimo (Sr.; Norfolk, Neb.). The Tiger senior has been pacing the team throughout the year. Edwin Ronoh (So.; Kenya) and Paul Garcia (Sr.; El Paso, Tex.) have consistently been the No. 2 and No. 3 runners, respectively, this year. All three Tigers earned GPAC All-Conference honors for the second straight year with Top 15 finishes at the conference championship meet on Nov. 7 in Fremont.

Scott Ohlson (Sr.; Imperial, Neb.) enters as the No. 4 runner this season for the Tigers. There has been some jockeying for the fifth and final scoring position for Doane. Completing the seven runners for Doane will be Jarid Holliday (Fr.; Minden, Neb.), Tyler Jackman (Sr.; Littleton, Colo.) and Jordan Pieper (Fr.; Norfolk, Neb.). Phil Rohde (Sr.; Genoa, Neb.) will also make the trip and will be an alternate in the case that a Tiger runner is not able to start the meet on Saturday.

The Tiger women will be represented by Viviana Arreola (Sr.; El Paso, Tex.) who earned All-GPAC honors at the conference championship meet and Yadira Salazar (Jr.; El Paso, Tex.). The two finished among the Top Seven runners that did not qualify through their team‘s qualification.

The men's 8K race will start at 12:30 PM (CST) with the women's race scheduled for a 1:45 PM start.
