Tigers Get Revenge on Flames

The Doane women's basketball team bounced back from a 24-point loss on Saturday with a 30-point win on Sunday over College of St. Mary. The win also allowed the Tigers to avenge a loss to the Flames in the second game of the season. Doane won 95-65 in the consolation game of the Dixie State Tournament.

The first half went back and forth through the first 14 minutes of play. With the score tied 28-all, Doane closed out the final six minutes with a 21-6 run. Cheryl Braithwait had seven points in the stretch and Ashley Daily added six.

The second half opened up similar to that of the first half but a 9-1 run over a two-minute span changed a 15-point lead to a 23-point advantage. Doane took off their press midway through the half but still picked up eight steals with man-to-man pressure in the final 10 minutes. The Tigers forced 22 turnovers in the game with 14 coming from steals.

Braithwait led the Tigers with 25 points and five assists. She hit 10-of-18 shot attempts. Madara Upeniece added 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Ashley Daily and Nicole Starns posted 11 points each. Savannah Lohmeier joined Braithwait with a game-high five assists. Doane had 21 assists to 12 turnovers.

St. Mary was led by Olivia Grigg's 27 points and 10 rebounds. Grigg was 8-of-10 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Kelsey Heese added 10 points for the Flames.

Doane will return to action on January 5 when they travel to Hastings College.
