Tigers Fall in Opener

The Doane Tigers were held out of the end zone with 2:45 and were unable to make a final push in their last possession as Dana College rallied in the second half to defeat the Tigers 10-7.  The Tigers had first and goal from the 10 yard line and moved the ball down to the four-yard line after two plays.  A dropped pass at the one-yard line and a missed field goal proved to be the Tigers' final chance to score.

The Tigers got on the board first after recovering a Dana fumble on an attempted reverse.  Mark Newmyer caught a 12-yard pass from Bryan Dutcher.  Dana was kept off the scoreboard in the first half in part to Dana kicker Rick Lebeda missing two field goals.  Lebeda did put the first points up for Dana by hitting a 45-yard field with 9:14 left in the third quarter.  Dana took the lead when Marcus Sladek hit Javon Bell in the endzone for a four-yard touchdown.

Justin Nelson led the Tiger rushing attack with 55 yards.  Bryan Dutcher was 10-20 passing for 84 yards and one touchdown.  Robert Phillips had three receptions for 47 yards.  The Tiger defense was led by Seth Styskals 11 tackles.  He had one sack.  Wali Muhammed added eight tackles and Anthony Brock had seven.

The Tigers will travel to Fremont next Saturday to face the Warriors of Midland Lutheran College.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
