The Tigers had their struggles on their first day in Texas, dropping a pair of games to Huston-Tillotson. Doane dropped game one 14-1 in five innings and game two 9-3.
Game One (HTU 14-1, 5 innings)
The Tigers were roughed up in the first inning, allowing 12 runs to HTU. Only four of the runs were earned. Trevor Buchholz struggled on the mound, giving up nine runs on five hits and three walks while recording one out. Chris Plourde relieved Buchholz and was only able to record one out as well. He allowed three unearned runs on four hits and a walk.
Matt Rediger picked up the final out of the first inning and also pitched the next two innings. He scattered five hits while keeping HTU off the scoreboard.
The Tiger bats were only able to collect two hits in five innings. Derek Smith had a single and RBI. Chris Kilmer collected the other Tiger hit.
Game Two (HTU 9-3)
Doane struck first, plating two runs in the first inning. Chris Bombardier walked and Kilmer reached on an error to start the game. Mitch Vernon singled in Bombardier and Bryan Dutcher hit a sacrifice fly to plate Kilmer.
HTU scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and took the lead in the second inning when they scored five runs. Trevor Zelinski took the loss for Doane, allowing six earned runs over 4.1 innings of work. Kyle Schachenmeyer closed out the game, scattering two hits in 1.2 innings.
Doane was limited to four hits for the game. Chris Williams, Phil Williams and Dutcher joined Vernon with Tiger hits.
Doane will face Huston-Tillotson on Monday, March 19, at 3:00 p.m. and Concordia-Austin at 7:00 p.m.
