Tigers Challenge School Records in Tune-up

The Tigers' track and field team used the final meet before the NAIA national championship to add a few new qualifiers and better some personal marks while also challenging school records.

In total, the Tiger tracksters hit 15 automatic marks and 9 provisional marks. Three school records were challenged and 13 season best marks were posted.

On the women's side, Blair Dixon posted an automatic mark in the 400m dash with a time of 55.87. Not only was it a person best but also challenged the school record of 55.68 set by Wendy Brouillette in 2002.

Viviana Arreola posted a provisional mark in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:15.61. Jillian Ourada finished with a provisional mark in the 100m hurdles, posting a time of 15.15.

The Tiger 4x100m relay team posted an automatic mark with a time of 48.43. The team consisted of Natalie Kramer, Cami Hasenohr, Deejay Silcott and Dixon.

In field events, Leah Petersen won the pole vault with a provisional mark of 3.43m (11-03.00).

Janelle Weber and Shelby Meier posted personal best in the triple jump with automatic qualifying marks. Weber bested her mark by 0.03m as she won with a leap of 11.75m (38-06.75). Meier added 0.16m to her personal mark, thus qualifying for the NAIA meet with a leap of 11.46m (37-07.25).

Whitney Collins and Kelsee Meisner posted automatic marks in the shot put. Collins hit a throw of 13.34m (43-09.25) while Meisner hit a season best of 13.28m (43-07.00).

Ashton Henderson placed second in the javelin with an automatic mark of 40.20m (131-11).

In men's action, Jens Scholl challenged the school record in the 800m run as he finished with a time of 1:51.29, a personal best and an automatic mark. He fell two seconds shy of Gregg Larson's mark set in 1987 of 1:49.26.

Rob Keeney hit provisional marks in the 110m and 400m hurdles. In the 110m, he posted a season best time of 15.06 and in the 400m he had a season best time of 55.16.

Paul Garcia challenged the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase as he posted an automatic qualifying mark of 9:16.72 and hit a personal best by four seconds. However, he came up just two seconds off the school record held by Fritz Busch. Busch set his mark in 1985, posting a time of 9:14.03.

The Doane relay teams posted automatic marks and season best times on Friday afternoon. The 4x100m relay team of Ben McCaleb, Adam Bosley, Adam Baxa and Vince Martinez finished with a time of 41.53. The 4x400m team of Laith Etmund, Bosley, Martinez and Scholl posted a mark of 3:15.34.

Brett Jorgensen hit a provisional mark in the long jump with a leap of 6.99m (22-11.25). Brian Hubbert won the triple jump with a provisional mark of 14.32m (46-11.75)

Jared Schuurmans posted two automatic marks. He won the discus with a throw of 55.61m (182-05) and posted a mark of 16.58m (54-04.75) in the shot put.

Zack Lindsley posted a personal best in the discus with a throw of 48.77m (160-00).

Jake Eckhardt posted a mark of 49.45m (162-03) in the hammer throw, a provisional mark.

Micah Marvin hit a personal best and qualified for the national meet in the javelin with a throw of 58.45m (191-09). Laith Etmund hit a provisional mark with a throw of 57.80m (189-07).

Doane will participate at the NAIA Track & Field Championship May 27-29 in Marion, Indiana, at Indiana Wesleyan University.
