Tigers Advance to Sioux City with Win

Doane College advanced to Sioux City, Iowa, for pool play in the NAIA National Tournament after turning away Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in straight sets Saturday in the Opening Round. Game scores were 25-18, 26-24 and 25-21 in favor of the Tigers.

Doane jumped out to an early lead over Trinity Christian, 5-1, before the Trolls came back to even the first set at 8-all. The Trolls eventually grabbed the lead but Doane fired back as Susan Rollman paced the Tigers in the first set with four kills.

The second set belong to Trinity Christian in the beginning but Doane's no-quit attitude allowed them to claw back late and eventually win the set on the second set point. Doane trailed at one point, 15-9. Emily Max paced the Tigers with eight kills in the set.

After Trinity Christian took 14-9 lead in set three before Doane took over and finished off the straight set victory. Heather Davison had one of her three ace serves on match point.

Emily Max paced Doane with 18 kills in the match while Susan Rollman finished with 13 for the Tigers. Hannah Petroelje led Trinity Christian with eight kills while four players finished with five kills each. Doane totaled 48 kills on the evening to Trinity Christian's 30.

Trinity Christian concludes arguably their most successful season at 28-8. The Trolls earned regular season co-champion honors while making their first NAIA tournament appearance.

For Doane, they move on to Sioux City with a 26-6 record and will look to advance out of pool play for the first time in school history after eight previous attempts.
