Tiger Season Comes to an End

Doane saw the season come to an end on Thursday as Nebraska Wesleyan rallied and took advantage of two Tiger errors for the win. Doane ends the season at 14-27 overall.

The Tigers jumped on the board with four runs in the first inning on five hits. Andrea Gonzales opened the game with a single and moved to third on a fielding error by the center fielder. Christy Kobza followed with a singled down the left field line for a RBI base knock. Following a Shelby Mendlik double, Deidre Cardoza singled in a pair of runs. Cardoza scored the final run of the inning on a double by Kylie Garrett.

Doane added to the lead in the third with a pair of runs. Kobza singled to open the inning and Brooke Sampson followed with a walk. Cardoza singled to plate Kara Riesen, who was running for Kobza. Sampson scored on the play as well on an error by the center fielder.

Nebraska Wesleyan responded with two runs in the bottom of the third. One of the runs was unearned following a Tiger error.

A single and a triple in the fifth gave the Prairie Wolves another run to cut the Tiger lead in half, 6-3.

Momentum completely shifted in the sixth. The Tigers had three hits in the top of the inning but were unable to do any damage and left the bases loaded. In the bottom of the frame, NWU came back with four runs as a Doane error proved costly. A dropped fly ball for a potential third out was followed up with a walk and a three-run home run to give the Prairie Wolves a 7-6 advantage.

Doane was held off the bases in the seventh.

For the game, three Tigers had three-hit games. Gonzales, Kobza and Cardoza had the three-hit games with Cardoza leading the way with three RBIs. Six different players scored a run for Doane.
