Three Late Goals Lift Tigers Past Rival

The Doane men's soccer team scored three times in the final 15 minutes of play to score a 4-2 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. The win improved Doane's record to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the GPAC.

In the first half, Nebraska Wesleyan scored first thanks to a penalty kick from Brad Fullerton. Doane evened up the game 10 minutes later when Juan Padilla headed in a pass from Sean Dougherty off a direct kick.

The two teams went into halftime tied at 1-1 and the score remained even until a strange turn of events. With 19 minutes remaining in regulation, Nebraska Wesleyan pulled their starting goal keeper. Three minutes later, Kyle Smith picked up a lose ball in front of the goal and scored to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Jake Miller took a pass from Tom Heavey three minutes later and scored to give Doane a two-goal lead. The final goal of the game for Doane came when a ball was passed back to the keeper and he mishandled it, allowing Miller to chase it down and put it in for his second goal. Nebraska Wesleyan closed out the crazy final 20 minutes with a goal with four seconds remaining on the clock.

Matt Bickley picked up the win in goal, collecting three saves. Turner Mead took the loss, allowing three goals on three shot attempts.

Doane will travel to Northwestern College on Saturday evening, October 2.
