Strong First Half Carries Tigers to Victory
Doane jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back as they came away with a 66-43 victory over Davis & Elkins University (WV) on the first day of the Island Time Classic in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
The Tigers (9-5) used aggressive ball pressure as they forced 36 turnovers by the Senators. Doane out-scored Davis & Elkins 24-3 on points off turnovers.
Lindsay Anderson paced the Tigers with 18 points, 16 in the first half. Ashley Howard added nine points as she moved over 1,000 career point mark. She now stands at 1,001 points. Ashley Sullwold and Jackie Knievel added eight points each for Doane.
Justine Munsterman collected a game-high three assists for Doane and Lindsay Anderson and Knievel had a team-high four steals each.
For the game, Doane shot 37.9 percent including 50 percent in the first half. The Tigers led 42-24 at halftime and held their largest lead of 26 points (62-36) with 1:16 remaining in the game.
Davis & Elkins (0-7) was paced by Courtney Pawiak's 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Doane will play NAIA Division II No. 20 Berea College (KY) on December 18. Berea College leads the nation in scoring as well as six other offensive categories.
