Smith, Witt Take GPAC Honor

(GPAC Release) The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following men's indoor track & field athletes-of-the-week for January 29 - February 4, 2007.  Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2006-2007 GPAC players-of-the-week and players and coaches-of-the-year awards program. 

  The following are the GPAC weekly honorees for January 29 - February 4 (indoor track week four):

Field Events
Maurice Smith, Doane
Doane's Maurice Smith is the field events athlete-of-the-week.  Smith, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, placed first in the long jump at the Scott Nisely Memorial Track Classic.  His jump of 23-10.25 broke the Doane school record and is the top mark in the NAIA this season.  He automatically qualifies for the NAIA National Meet with the measurement.

Track Events
Zach Witt, Doane
Doane's Zach Witt is the track athlete-of-the-week.  Witt, a senior from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, placed third in the 55 meter hurdles and was on the winning Doane 4x400 meter relay team at the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic.  His mark of 0:07.84 in the 55 hurdles was an automatic qualifying time for the NAIA National Meet.
