Sioux Falls scored on seven of their first 10 possessions as they pulled away in the second quarter to defeat Doane 51-7 in Crete Saturday evening. Mike Dvoracek scored USF's first four touchdowns, rushing for three of them. The Doane defense did collect two turnovers, recovering a fumble in the first quarter and intercepting a pass just before halftime. The interception came after USF regained possession with a 30-0 lead. They used three timeouts in the final minutes on the defensive side as Doane tried to get the run game going. USF tried to hit Dusty Hovorka in the end zone but Marcus Mitchell took away the pass.
Doane was led defensively by Will Sadowski's 12 total tackles. Simon Mitchell added nine tackles. Marcus Mitchell had the fumble recovery and interception for Doane.
Offensively, JR Artozqui threw for 141 yards and one touchdown. He was sacked three times, including once in the end zone for a safety. Justin Nelson was limited to 17 net yards on 20 carries. Michael Vargas collected 14 yards on the ground. Robbie Trent led the receivers with four reception for 58 yards. Alex Renshaw had one catch for 37 yards and a touchdown. Maurice Smith collected 118 yards on six kickoff returns.
Doane will travel to Seward on October 28 to face Concordia. The Bulldogs are coming off a 24-0 loss to Morningside College.
