Season Ends at Regionals

Doane's season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of losses at the NAIA Region III Tournament in Sioux City.  The Tigers dropped a pair of games to teams from the Dakota Athletic Conference, ending the team's season at 27-17.

In the first game of the day, the Tigers lost a 3-0 lead and fell to Minot State University, 4-3.  The Tigers gave up three runs in the sixth inning and a throwing error allowed the winning run to score.

Doane jumped out with a run in the second inning as the Tigers took advantage of a Beaver error.  With two outs and Masker on third, Amber Remmers drew a walk and sprinted towards second.  She held up momentarily in between bases, drawing a throw towards second.  Masker broke towards home plate immediately and plated the first run of the game by avoiding the catcher's tag attempt.

In the third inning, Amy Hamik & Whitney Poole reached on bunt singles and moved up a base each on a Kristin Schmidt sacrifice bunt.  Stephanie Mosley reached on a fielder's choice as Hamik was thrown out at the plate but Masker delivered with a two-out double to score Poole and Mosley.

Minot State plated their first run of the game in the fifth inning when a run scored on a throwing error by Amber Remmers.  The Beavers added three runs in the sixth, scoring the go-ahead run on a throwing error by Pamela Masker.  The two errors the Tigers committed in the game proved to be the difference.

The Tigers were held to four hits in the game, two from Amy Hamik.  Doane was able to get a few base runs as they stranded four in the game.

Doane was forced to battle through the loser's bracket of the tournament and found the No. 1 seed waiting for them.  Dickinson State lost to Dana College, 1-0.  The Blue Hawks struck first with a two-run home run in the first inning off of starter Megan Steele.

Doane cut the lead in half in the third inning when Whitney Poole singled down the right field line to plate Joy Vasa with two outs.

The Blue Hawks responded with another two-run home run in the fifth inning and two unearned runs in the sixth.

Doane scored the final run of their season in the seventh when Alyssa Ledon hit an RBI single into left field to plate Pamela Masker.  Masker led off the inning with a double to center field.

For the game, Doane had six hits but Dickinson State pitcher Sara Jane Webster struck out 10 Tiger batters.

The loss ended the Tiger's season, finishing 10 games over .500.  The 27 wins Doane picked up on the season are the second most in school history.
