Schuurmans Breaks Discus Record

The Tiger throwers opened up the outdoor season by participated at the Hastings Bronco Relays on Sunday afternoon.  The meet was moved back a day due to weather and the Tigers did not take any other athletes to the meet.

The highlight of the meet for the Tigers was the school record throw from Jared Schuurmans in the discus.  Schuurmans, a national runner-up in the event last year, broke the mark he set in 2008 by nearly five feet as he posted a throw of 182-02.  He marked on four of his six throws, all of which topped his best throw from last year.

Schuurmans followed with a third place finish in the hammer throw as well, posting a best mark of 161-11.75.

Jake Eckhardt placed fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 157-09.  He finished seventh in the discus with a mark of 145-01.

Alvin Voss brought home third place in the shot put with a throw of 49-06.  Voss finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 141-01.

Sarah Hinman won the women's discus with a throw of 144-05.  She placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 127-01.

Whitney Collins placed second in the shot put with a throw of 40-04.  She was fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 138-08.

Kelsee Meissner placed third in the shot put with a mark of 40-02.
