Quilts Showcased in Rall Gallery

Quilts of all shapes, sizes and colors are now featured in the Rall Gallery on Doane's Crete campus until Dec. 15.

A reception for visitors will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 in the gallery.

Quilt sizes range from taking up a whole wall to small one-block designs. One of the larger designs is a quilt by Arlene Engels of Fairbury that combines fuchsias, blues and greens.

Some quilts have been designed to represent different seasons. One quilt called, "Joyful Leaves," illustrates green leaves with only a few changed to yellow and orange. Another depicts autumn with items like a pumpkin.

Among the quilts are a variety from faculty and staff. A quilt by Special Education Professor Kay Hegler is featured. It is a 50th anniversary block quilt created for Helen Fritz and Lynn Loomis. Hegler also showcased a quilt by her mother, Helen, with nine different types of flowers titled, "Flower Garden." Other quilts have been loaned by library archivist Janet Jeffries and faculty office manager and head secretary Kathy Sand.

Rall Gallery is in Perkins Library, in the lower level of the Communications Center. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-11p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 2-11 p.m.
