Point Loma Turns Triple Play on Tigers

The Doane softball team saw their three game win streak snapped by the No. 3 team in the NAIA, Point Loma Nazarene. The Crusaders topped the Tigers 11-0 in six innings.

The Tigers were unable to get anything to work in their favor. Point Loma Nazarene collected 12 hits while limiting the Tigers to one hit and only four base runners.

Doane's best opportunity came in the fourth inning, trailing 4-0. Deidre Cardoza reached on an error and Christy Kobza picked up a single to give Doane two runners on base with no outs. Brianna Dickinson ran for Kobza and became part of one of the rarest plays in the game.

Brooke Sampson, the team leader in RBIs, was at the plate for the Tigers. Sampson hit a line drive towards shortstop that was caught and the Crusaders turned a 6-4-3 triple play to end the Tiger inning.

Megan Wingate took the loss for the Tigers, allowing four runs on four hits in three innings of work. She struck out two batters. Jennifer Liddell relieved Wingate after starting the game at first base and allowed seven runs, six earned, in three innings.
