Morningside Rallies, Ends Doane's Season

Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) women's soccer playoffs opened up on Tuesday evening as Doane played host to Morningside College in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 match-up.  The winner would go on to face Dordt College in the semifinals after the Defenders won their opening game earlier in the day.  With windy conditions, both teams were able to take advantage and score goals but it was Morningside who scored four goals in the second half to defeat the Tigers, 4-3.  The loss ends Doane's season at 11-7-1.

Doane scored twice in the first half.  Samantha Exstrom scored the first goal on a corner kick.  Less than three minutes later, Kelly Spencer notched a goal off an assist from Kelsey Kovar as Doane took a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, the Mustangs battled back with a pair of goals from Maggie Kukuk.  After Kukuk tied the game at 2-2, Terianne Colangelo scored a go-ahead goal for the Tigers two minutes later. With Doane up 3-2, Kukuk notched her third goal of the game shortly after the Tigers had taken the lead.

With just under five minutes remaining, Kate Goss scored on a corner kick to put the Mustangs ahead for their only lead of the game.

Adriane Dougherty posted 10 saves for Morningside while Alicia Exstrom collected nine.
