Meyer Wins 600th Match

Meyer Wins 600th Match

Doane Head Volleyball Coach Cindy Meyer reached a rare milestone attained by few on Wednesday evening as she picked up her 600th career win at Doane College. Doane has been her only collegiate coaching location, serving the school for 24 years.

Earlier in the month, Meyer moved into 16th all-time on the NAIA coaching list. With the win on Wednesday evening over Morningside College, Meyer became the third coach in the state of Nebraska to win 600 matches. She joins former University of Nebraska coach Terry Pettit and former University of Nebraska-Kearney coach Rosella Meier as college coaches in Nebraska to win 600 matches.

Meyer was recognized following the victory as this year's seniors, Heather Davison and Nicole Skolnick, presented her with the game ball and a plaque of achievement recognizing her 600th victory. The assistant coaches wore "600 wins" t-shirts underneath their coaching clothes and showed off the shirts immediately after the final point. Several alumni as well as family members were also present to help celebrate Meyer's accomplishment.

Following the match in a radio interview, Meyer acknowledged that the achievement was something special but that it could not have happened without all the great players she has coached.

"I just look at it as an honor to be here and coach such great athletes and with great assistant coaches," Meyer said. "I appreciate the intensity they always brought and we always stress that it is a ‘team' effort. I also appreciate the relationships I have with the other coaches (at Doane), it's all a big family."

Doane improved to 20-4 on the year with the straight-set victory over Morningside. They will resume GPAC action on Saturday when they play host to Midland University at 5:00 PM.
