Mendlik Earns GPAC Honor

The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following softball player and pitcher-of-the-week for April 24- May 1, 2011. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2010-2011 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Softball Weekly Honors
Player - Shelby Mendlik, Doane

Doane's shortstop Shelby Mendlik is the Hauff Mid-America Sports Softball Player-of-the-Week. Mendlik, a freshman from Omaha, Nebraska, hit five home runs on the week and broke the school record single season mark with13 home runs on the season. Her on-base percentage was over .600 and slugging percentage topped 1.200. She reached base in every game on the week and had hits in 7 of the 8 games. The Tigers are 14-25 entering the conference tournament as the sixth seed facing Dordt on Thursday, May 5 in Sioux City at 2 pm.

Pitcher - Alysia Wittmaack, Nebraska Wesleyan
Nebraska Wesleyan's pitcher Alysia Wittmaack is the Hauff Mid-America Sports Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week. Wittmaack, a senior from Lincoln, Nebraska, made three starts and got complete game victories in all three, including a two-hit shutout over Mount Marty. She struck out 19 and walked only three leading the Prairie Wolves to a record of 4-2 on the week. Wittmaack's 19 strikeouts pushed her individual record to over 500 strikeouts for her career with 501 career strikeouts, 232 more than any other pitcher in NWU history.
