Jazz Ensemble, SWE Begin Colorado, Nebraska Tour

The Doane Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) and Jazz Ensemble are currently touring across Colorado and Nebraska. The groups left Friday, Jan. 21, and will return on Jan. 29.  During this time, the groups will perform for Milford, Sidney, Leyton, Gering, Bayard, Broken Bow and Gibbon high schools in Nebraska and a public performance will be held at UCC Plymouth Congregational Church in Englewood, Colorado.

They will then end their tour with a performance in Crete on Jan. 30 at 3 P.M. in Heckman Auditorium on the Crete campus.

Directed by Dr. Jay Gilbert, Doane's director of instrumental music, Symphonic Wind Ensemble is the premier wind-based ensemble of the college, open to students by audition.  The ensemble generally performs three concerts a semester and completes an annual state, regional or national tour.

The Doane Jazz Band performs a variety of jazz, rock, Latin, swing and fusion styles and is open to all students by audition or permission.  The ensemble is directed by David von Kampen, a second-year masters student in music composition at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an accomplished composer.
