Groundbreaking Ceremony for Ledon Complex Scheduled for Oct. 5

Doane will have a groundbreaking ceremony for a softball and baseball complex and new track and field throwing competition areas Thursday, Oct. 5, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Construction of the Jose M. and Elizabeth Ledon Softball and Baseball Complex is underway on the east side of campus. The estimated $800,000 project will include two fields, stadium seating, batting cages, a two-story press box and concessions.

The project is funded by a generous donation from Jose and Elizabeth Ledon of Las Vegas, the parents of a current Doane student and softball player.

Sampson Construction of Lincoln will serve as general contractor. The company also was general contractor for Haymarket Park in Lincoln. The new complex is expected to be complete in time for the spring 2007 baseball and softball season.

The ceremony takes place at the construction site, near the grass soccer field, and is open to the public.
