Friends Jumps Out Early on Doane
Friends University, receiving votes in the NAIA national poll, jumped out to an early seven run lead as they defeated Doane 12-4 in six innings on Saturday. The Falcons scored multiple runs in four of the innings as Doane fell to 2-2 on the year.
Jennifer Liddell gave up five runs on two hits and three walks in one-third of an inning before leaving the game. Jenna Alswager allowed two runs over 1.2 innings and Katy Jones allowed five runs, three earned, through 3.2 innings before the mercy rule was enforced.
Doane plated their four runs in the third inning. Kayla Hochstein led off the inning with a single and moved up on a single by Whitney Poole. Deidre Cardoza singled to load the bases and Christy Kobza singled to drive in Hochstein. Jen Montoya walked to bring in Poole from third for the Tigers' second run. With two down in the inning, Alswager doubled to drive in Cardoza and Kobza to close out the Tiger scoring.
For the game, Cardoza led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with a run scored. Alswager finished with a team high two RBIs. Doane was limited to six hits in the game, five in the fourth inning.
