Doane Wins Third Straight as GPAC Play Begins

The Tiger men's soccer team continued their winning ways as they opened up GPAC play with a 2-1 victory at Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Mitchell, S.D. The Tigers have won three straight after a 1-3 start to the year.

Dakota Wesleyan was the first to get on the board, posting a goal just a 1:38 into the game. Hugo Gonzalez picked up the goal off a pass from Drew Joachim. DWU bunkered in the rest of the game to try and limit Doane's opportunities to score.

The Tigers tied the game in the 52nd minute on a goal by Kyle Smith. Monday Akogwu picked up the assist. Doane took the lead with a go-ahead goal by Devon Strecker in the 80th minute. Akogwu added a second assist for the Tigers.

Matt Bickley picked up the win in goal, allowing one goal and collecting three saves. Jordan Werner took the loss as he allowed both Doane goals and picked up 11 saves.

Doane will host Midland Lutheran College on September 21 at 7:15 PM.
