Doane Tops Brescia in Indy
The Tiger men's basketball team headed to Indianapolis for the Marian College Tournament on Friday evening and came away victorious over Brescia University. Doane used a 6-0 run late in the first half to take an 11-point advantage into halftime. They maintained their double-digit lead through most of the second half as the Tigers won, 71-58.
Jake Johnson posted a game-high 17 points, hitting three field goals and nine free throws. Elliott Mencl and Taylor Oltjenbruns posted 10 points apiece.
A key for the Tigers in the victory was the assist-to-turnover ratio. For Doane, they had 20 assists to 10 turnovers while Brescia had 20 turnovers and only 10 assists. Doane received five assists from Trent Schlautman and four from Johnson.
The Tigers were out-rebounded 38-34. Nick Reed had a game-high nine rebounds.
Doane will take on the host team, Marian, in the championship game on Saturday afternoon.
