Doane Rallies Past Simpson

The Tiger men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Simpson College, 5-4.

Simpson took an early lead in the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. Ross Schulenberg and Sam Tipton lost to Alex Hook and Adam Summitt, 8-3. Chance Hohensee and Josh Johnson lost to Noah Saunders and Dan Schneider, 8-2. The lone doubles win came at No. 3 with Aaron Haag and Mick Steiner defeating Dylan Hogan and Luke Haack, 9-7.

In doubles action, Doane rebounded to win four of the six matches. Schulenberg defeated Hook, 6-4, 6-3. Hohensee lost to Summitt, 6-0, 6-2. Tipton fell to Saunders, 6-1, 6-2.

Johnson won in a tie-breaker over Hogan, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7). Phil Cook won 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) over Haack. Steiner defeated Schneider in a tie-breaker, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).

Doane will face Concordia in a non-conference match-up on March 1.
