Doane named to Princeton Review's Best Regional Colleges list

Doane University has been named one of the 158 best colleges in the Midwest according to The Princeton Review. The education services company lists Doane in the “Best in the Midwest” section of its 2021 Best Colleges: Region by Region feature.

The Best Colleges list features 655 colleges The Princeton Review recommends over five regions: the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West, and International. The 655 colleges selected represent about 23% of four-year colleges in America.

"We chose Doane and the other outstanding institutions on this list primarily for their academics,” said Robert Franek, editor-in-chief at The Princeton Review. He noted that the company considered data from its survey of administrators at several hundred colleges in each region, information from staff visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of college counselors and advisors whose perspective the company solicits. “We also consider what students enrolled at the schools reported to us on our student survey about their campus experiences,” Franek added.

The Princeton Review survey asks students to rate their colleges on dozens of issues and to answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their campus life. Comments from surveyed students are quoted in the Doane University profile online.

Among the comments, Doane students say academics at the university are “well-rounded and rigorous,” overseen by “outstanding professors.” Editors at The Princeton Review add that Doane has a “responsive, student-oriented staff.”

Additional student comments from the survey include:

“Students of all types are able to find their niche at Doane.”

“There is an incredible community feel.”

“Because the school is small, students of all backgrounds interact and become friends with people they may not have met at a larger school.”

The 158 colleges The Princeton Review chose for its “Best in the Midwest” 2021 list are located in 12 states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
