Doane joins select group to offer MicroBachelors program online
The global COVID-19 pandemic has created a host of unique challenges for students, educators and employers. Colleges and universities across the country have been working to adapt their procedures and educational offerings to meet the needs of students working and studying in the midst of the pandemic.
Doane University has leaned on its stable online learning infrastructure to continue to provide high-quality education to its students during this disruption. In addition to Doane’s online course offerings, the university also has a number of course offerings on DoaneX, through its partnership with online learning platform edX.
This summer, edX announced new MicroBachelors programs, a creative solution to meet the needs of the modern working student. Along with nationally-known institutions such as Arizona State University, Rice University, NYU, and Western Governors University, Doane University has joined this prestigious group of schools to offer a MicroBachelors program to learners all across the globe.
“This marks an exciting milestone for our partnership with Doane University with the announcement of a new MicroBachelors program,” says Anant Agarwal, CEO and founder of edX. “This modular program offers learners with some or no college the opportunity to gain a credential that delivers on the skills and knowledge necessary to further their career. We are honored to work with Doane to continue to expand access to high-quality undergraduate education through modular, stackable credentials like the MicroBachelors program.”
MicroBachelors programs provide an opportunity for impacted students and workers to gain immediately transferable skills to secure new employment, or gain academic credit that stacks toward a bachelor’s degree for those who are having to delay or reexamine their college plans due to the pandemic.
Doane’s new MicroBachelors program focuses on Marketing Essentials, and is available on the edX platform (https://www.edx.org/microbachelors/doanex-marketing-essentials), beginning July 1. The three-month, self-paced courses are designed to give practical, applicable insights to students in the following areas:
- Consumer behavior and positioning strategies
- Analytical tools used to assess marketing strategies
- New technologies as it applies to marketing
- Social media and value creation
- Market segmentation, target marketing & promotion
- Pricing strategies
- Integrated marketing and value communication
Doane’s Marketing Essentials MicroBachelors program is divided into three main courses and a comprehensive final exam to be taken at the student’s own pace. Completion of all parts of the program awards a program certificate and transferable college credit. Credit can be transferred to Doane bachelor’s degree programs, or other applicable institutions. All course content is available online and can be completed anywhere.
The course of study was designed to help students and workers build a solid foundation in modern marketing techniques and technologies that they can apply immediately in their careers. Whether they are already involved in marketing operations and looking for a refresher, or thinking about moving careers to the marketing field, this program is designed to help. No prerequisites are required to enroll in the course.
“The DoaneX team is excited to partner with edX to launch a new MicroBachelors program,” says Diona Hartwig, assistant director of e-learning programs at Doane. “We are one of only five partners to offer this type of program through edX. We feel that a MicroBachelors program is a great way to offer learners the flexibility to complete the courses on their own schedule and still allow for 3 transferable college credits to be earned.”
Hartwig says Doane plans to launch a second MicroBachelors program later this year.
The DoaneX MicroBachelors program in Marketing Essentials is just one way Doane University is working to ensure quality and applicable learning for all its students, even in the midst of an unprecedented global crisis. By keeping quality outcomes for its students as its central priority, Doane is positioned to continue offering the highest possible level of quality education to its students, no matter what the future holds.
