Doane Holds Off Viking Charge
Doane rallied from an early nine point deficit to defeat Dana College, 65-62. The Vikings led by nine points, 22-13, with 4:43 remaining in the first half but a 13-5 run to close the half brought Doane within a point at the break.
The Tigers picked up their first lead of the game at the 16:19 mark in the second half. The Vikings opened the second half with a basket but Doane responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead after a Desirae Albus basket. The two teams would exchange the lead over the next five minutes of play before Doane went on an 11-2 run to take a nine point lead with 9:11 remaining.
However, the Vikings responded and went on a 16-2 run and led by five points with 4:48 remaining. Momentum switched after Alissa Holland hit a pair of free throws and Brittany Lurz picked up a steal from Dana's Heidi Gowery. Gowery grabbed Lurz and was called for an intentional foul. Lurz hit both free throws to pull the Tigers within a point and with possession of the ball, Doane took the lead when Holland found Amy Fox under the basket for a lay-up. Doane eventually opened up a six point lead with 12 seconds remaining but Megan Gerdes hit a three-point basket with one second on the clock for the final score.
On the evening, Doane was led by Amy Fox's 14 points, three assists and three blocks. Alissa Holland added 12 points and three blocks. Hannah Helman posted 12 points and three assists. Lindsay Anderson had a team-high seven rebounds, four on the offensive end.
Dana was paced by Megan Gerdes' 12 points as she was 4-of-4 from three-point range. Amanda Bryant added 12 points and Erin Bazata posted a game-high nine rebounds.
Doane will take on Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 PM. The game can be heard on the Tiger Sports Network.
