Doane Dominant in Victory
The Doane men's soccer team found themselves on the right side of a lop-sided victory over Ottawa University on Saturday evening in Crete. The Tigers topped the Braves 5-1 and moved to 2-3 on the year while Ottawa fell to 1-4.
Doane scored the first goal of the game on a corner kick by Andrew Moore. Juan Padilla found the Moore pass on the backside of the goal and headed it past Ottawa keeper Drinnan Sante in the ninth minute of play.
The Tigers added a goal with 17 seconds remaining in the first half. Doane keeper Matt Bickley let a loose ball roll back to him but before he picked it up, two Braves players gave chance. It led to an advantage for the Tigers as Bickley picked up the ball and threw it out to Alex Reynolds. Reynolds pushed ahead to Devon Strecker who then found Jake Miller. Miller laced a shot past Sante for a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Ottawa cut the lead in half in the 54th minute of play as Philip Nguyen scored for the Braves.
Doane came right back and scored four minutes later as Tom Heavey scored on a pass from Cyrus Sorenson.
Andrew Moore added a goal in the 72nd minute and Bryce Petersen closed out the scoring with a goal in the 86th minute.
Bickley finished with two saves for the Tigers in three shots faced while Sante picked up 15 saves. Doane out-shot Ottawa 34-8 for the game and 16-2 in shots on goal.
Doane will play at York College on September 14 before heading to Mitchell, S.D., to open up GPAC play.
