Doane Defeats Bulldogs

Doane received three field goals from freshman Drew Giesenhagen and a great defensive effort to defeat Concordia University 9-7 in Crete on Saturday afternoon.  Giesenhagen posted two 24-yard field goals and a 26-yard field goal as the Tigers improved to 2-3 on the season and in the conference.

The defense limited the Bulldogs to 208 total yards of offense.  The only touchdown of the game came from running back JaMaine Lewis, as Concordia went five plays for 23 yards to end the third quarter.  In the fourth quarter, Doane used a stiff defense and a pair of Concordia penalties to hold the Bulldogs to a 50-yard field goal attempt that was missed short.

Kyle Coffie led the defense with 13 total tackles, four solo.  He had three sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass break-up.  His pass break-up came in the fourth quarter on a third down play.  Josh Warren added seven total tackles and added a 36.1 punt average, placing two inside the 20 yard line.  Toby Hite notched four tackles and an interception.  Seth Blake recovered two fumbles for the Tigers.

Offensively, Jaremy Puthoff rushed for 37 yards and helped secure first downs in the fourth quarter.  Maurice Smith added 25 yards on the ground.

JR Artozqui completed 10 passes for 135 yards.  Luke Burson, Blake Erickson and Mark Newmyer each pulled in two receptions.
