Doane announces partnership with Launch Leadership

Doane University is excited to announce the beginning of a new three-year partnership with Launch Leadership, a Lincoln-based youth leadership nonprofit group. The partnership kicked off on Friday, September 28 at Launch's annual informational and fundraising event, Fire and Fuzzies, at the Rococo Theatre in downtown Lincoln.

“We believe this exciting collaboration will provide new and impactful opportunities for students throughout the Cornhusker State to develop critical leadership skills and cultivate new relationships with peers outside of their current school networks,” states Stacy Ford Bingham, Launch’s executive director.  “The end goal is to continue providing transformative, experiential programming for students in grades 6–12. When students are empowered, they positively influence our communities which ultimately contributes to a better, kinder world,” she adds.

“Developing student leaders is part of the heartbeat and fabric of both organizations. The newfound partnership is a perfect match and one that we believe will have a positive, rippling effect on our communities and our state,” states Carrie Petr,  Doane University’s vice president for student leadership.

The mission of Launch Leadership is to empower young leaders to transform their communities and change our world.  Launch Leadership’s 57-year running flagship leadership experience, Summer Leadership Workshop, is powered entirely by volunteer staff members and has been hosted on Wayne State College’s campus in recent years. The program draws more than 700 students, entering grades 6–12, from all over the Cornhusker state and beyond.

Launch intentionally creates a culture without outcasts. They provide a space where thousands of students at our Summer Workshops and Year Round Services  are accepted - exactly as they are. There is something magical about that, as it opens up the door for authenticity and vulnerability. And, as a result, students develop new friendships, examine complex issues and uncover their unique set of leadership abilities and values. They leave full of hope with newly developed skills, friendships and a desire to impact others.
