Doane alums Hudnall, Conner reunite to run business

Family Eyecare optometrists

Living down the hall from each other during their freshman year at Doane, Dr. Chad Hudnall ’01 and Dr. Joshua Conner ‘02 could have never imagined where their friendship would take them. 20 years after first meeting each other, Chad and Josh’s strong friendship has turned into a business partnership, as the two have been reunited as partners at Family Eyecare Center in Grand Island, NE.

Chad first joined Family Eyecare Center in August of 2005, shortly after graduating from Indiana University with a Doctorate in Optometry. Chad became partner in 2007 and has stayed in touch with Josh over the years, who also received his Doctorate of Optometry from Indiana University after attending Doane. Josh and his wife, Dr. Lynda Conner, had been working as optometrists in South Bend, IN, when Chad called in the winter of 2016 with an opportunity for Josh and Lynda to join his practice in Grand Island.

“I always thought it would be great to work with Chad,” Josh says. “We knew how neat it would be to work together, and the timing was right. It’s been a long progression of a relationship and I think few business owners can say that they have known each other as long as we have.”

Josh and Lynda jumped at the opportunity and joined Family Eye Care Center as optometrists in December of 2016. Josh became partner with Chad in January 2018.

"We wouldn't be doing this if the two of us hadn't gone to Doane together," Josh says. "The great thing about Doane is that it allows you the opportunity to find the people you're a natural fit with. We're both from Grand Island, had the same interests - it was meant to be."

The two both studied biology at Doane and are thankful for the experiences they received in college, attributing a lot of the success they’ve had to being Doane graduates.

“I think our Doane education has benefited us a lot,” Chad says. “When you’re running a business with someone you have to have that trust factor and I think a lot of that was developed at Doane. That has carried over into our practice and helps us a lot.”

Josh adds, “Because Doane is a small school, you develop your people skills very well, relating to others with different backgrounds and building connections with others. Being able to communicate well in our field is extremely important.”

Family Eyecare Center has locations in Grand Island and St. Paul, Nebraska. Dr. Chad Hudnall, Dr. Josh Conner, and Dr. Lynda Conner can be seen at the Grand Island location. For more information on their practice, visit their website
