Cougars End Doane's Season in Tourney
The Doane women's basketball team saw their season come to an early end on Tuesday evening as they fell to the University of Sioux Falls, 63-51. The combination of turnovers and cold shooting, especially in the first half, proved too much to overcome on the road. The Tigers end their season with a 12-18 record overall.
Doane hit the opening points of the game on a Vanessa Munter jumper. That would be Doane's only lead of the game as the Cougars answered with an 11-0 run. The Coo was able to build a lead of 12 in the first half but the Tigers cut it down to eight points at halftime, 30-22. A hindrance to Doane was their shooting percentage, just 29-percent from the floor in the first half.
In the second half, Doane trailed by 12 points once again but went on a 14-4 run to pull within two points, 46-44. USF received two buckets by Chelsa Baxa to go ahead by six but during the stretch Doane missed two shots and had two turnovers. The Cougars also stepped up at the free throw line, going 16-of-18 (89-percent) in the game. They were a 64-percent shooting team at the free throw line entering the game.
Doane received 11 points from Vanessa Munter and Morgan Dubas. Madara Upeniece added eight points and a game-high seven rebounds off the bench. Lindsay Shaw led the Tigers with four steals and two assists.
