Braithwait Signs with Doane
Doane College Head Basketball Coach Tracee Fairbanks announced the addition of Cheryl Braithwait to her 2008 recruit class. Braithwait, a native of Arapahoe, Neb., was a member of the state tournament qualifying Arapahoe High School team.
Braithwait was a highly decorated basketball player for the Warriors. This past season she averaged 20.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.2 steals per game. She posted a school record 33 points and 15 steals against Overton High School in the season opener this year. Braithwait scored double figure points in 26 of 28 games and reached at least 20 points in 16 games. She also recorded nine double-doubles. Against Bertrand on January 21, Braithwait recorded a near quadruple double, scoring 22 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.
For her career, she finishes as Arapahoe's all-time leading scorer with 1,792 points. She also holds the career mark in steals with 452. In total, Braithwait will graduate with eight school records.
For the second straight season, she was named First Team All-State in Class D1 by Huskerland Prep Report, the Lincoln Journal Star and the Omaha World Herald. During her sophomore year she earned Second Team honors while picking up honorable mention status her freshman year.
Cheryl is the daughter of Bob & Marge Braithwait of Arapahoe.
Doane College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). Doane is a four-year liberal arts college located in Crete, Nebraska, and offers 39 areas of study along with seven pre-professional programs.
