Bierman named CIO at Doane
Doane University is excited to announce the hiring of Derek Bierman as its new Chief Information Officer. Bierman comes to Doane with 20 years of leadership experience in technology where he has overseen the delivery of web, business, and cloud-based services in both the public and private sectors delivering solutions for colleges, non-profits, startups, and large Fortune 500 companies such as Coke and Ameritrade.
Most recently, Bierman served as the Vice President of Technology Services at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska, a position he held for six years. As VP of Technology Services, Bierman served as the school’s first chief information officer, chief data officer, and chief information security officer. He oversaw a technology division of 45 employees while also serving as a key advisor to the board of governors, president, and other members of the executive team providing strategic direction on technology strategies, initiatives, and innovations.
Prior to being named Vice President of Technology Services, Bierman was the Director of Web Services for six years at Northeast Community College and was a Creative Web Development Specialist at Nebraska Public Power District in Columbus, Nebraska for 11 years.
Bierman has been selected to be the next CIO at Doane University after an extensive nationwide search was conducted.

Bierman will be responsible for the management and oversight of all administrative and academic technology services provided to students, faculty, and staff. He will also be responsible for the management of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, file servers and networking infrastructure, application software development, information security, instructional technologies, installation and maintenance of technology equipment, user support services, and policy development. Bierman will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to prioritize technology initiatives, identify risks, evaluate trends, and make IT recommendations. As CIO, Bierman will report directly to the president and serves as the university’s senior advisor on matters related to information technology.

Bierman earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Bellevue University in 2013. He also earned an Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Art from Central Community College in Columbus, Nebraska. Bierman will begin his tenure at Doane at the end of January.
