Andrea Butler Named Director of Online Education

Andrea Butler was named as director of online education

Doane University has announced the appointment of Andrea Butler as the school’s director of online education. Butler comes to Doane having served most recently as executive director of enrollment management and community engagement for adult and graduate programs at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.

Butler will bring a wealth of professional knowledge and expertise to Doane’s online learning programs. She is a former U.S. Air Force Officer, serving in multiple management and organizational development roles including experience in education and training. Following her time with the Air Force, she held adjunct faculty positions at Methodist College and Creighton University before serving in multiple capacities at Nebraska Wesleyan in 2006.

“We are thrilled that Andrea is joining us as director of online education,” said Dr. John Burney, Doane's vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty. "Andrea brings solid experience in all those areas necessary to make our online strategy succeed – program development, student recruitment and management of online staff. She is committed to Doane’s mission and vision for quality online offerings and has the communication skills to help tie a complex program together. We look forward to the energy and ideas that Andrea will bring to our expanding adult initiatives."

Butler will begin her duties at Doane on Sept. 1, and will lead Doane’s new online programs, which currently include the Master of Arts in Management, Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and courses that serve as prerequisites for the health professions. More online programs are expected to be announced at Doane in the coming year.

“It is an honor to work for a university that has a strong sense of mission based in a liberal arts tradition,” Butler said. “Doane has allocated resources and engaged talent to enhance its online presence. I am committed to the growth and success of the online programs. I envision Doane’s online education providing academic programs with Doane’s unique signature to regional-, national- and global-based students. It is an exciting time to be at Doane University!”

Butler holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University, a Master of Science in Health Promotion from Nebraska Methodist College and a certificate from the Management Development Program at Harvard University. She is currently working on her doctorate in human capital management.
